In October 1999 Larry Philips and I went to China to teach the first American Society of Appraisers' Gems & Jewelry 216 course, a comprehensive, 10-day course covering Valuation Theory and the Master Gemologist Appraiser curriculum created especially for non-US students. We were delighted with the students and with the planning, preparation, facilities and warm welcome extended by our sponsors. We formed many new friendships, and hope we will have the opportunity to meet our students again--either in China or at appraisal events in the U.S.

Our hosts made sure that we saw some of the sights, from the Great Wall to the Forbidden City.  Below are some of the highlights of our trip. We worked hard and came home tired, but with many fond memories!
